  • Solid feel and appearance of quality, Longer 24-90mm eq. lens than LX3, yet still as wide, Fast lens at f/2.0 - 3.3, More effective optical image stabilization with Power O.I.S, Compact design, 3-inch 460K-dot LCD with 11-step auto brightness, Four as...
  • Some soft corners at wide-angle (wide-open), Lots of barrel distortion in RAW files at wide-angle, Below average color accuracy/inaccurate Manual WB, Yellowish skin tones outdoors with Auto WB, Visible demosaicing errors in fine detail such as hair, Sl...
  • There are few cameras that most photo enthusiasts would agree upon. The Panasonic LX5 is one of them. No, not all photo enthusiasts will say that the LX5 is the best but, I think most would agree it's a contender, a heck of a good camera, with a classi...

  • Ultrawideangle lens with F2.0 aperture, Macro mode lets you get extremely close to subject, Very fast autofocus and quiet zoom motors, Superior video capture and manual video controls, Manual controls for aperture, shutter, and focus, Very sturdy bui
  • Intelligent Auto mode produces underexposed images, Some camera settings are buried deep in menus, Limited optical zoom range
  • The Lumix LX5 is not a camera for novices, but it offers an insane amount of power for a fixed-lens camera if you're not intimidated by manual controls. Shop for the Lumix DMC-LX5 MerchantPriceMerchant Rating $499.95 Learn More » 5 Reviews » $460.98 ...

  • Very good photo quality, low noise though ISO 800 in good light (and things look better if you shoot RAW), Fast F2.03.3 lens with newly expanded 24 90 mm focal range, New and improved optical image stabilization, Midsize, well built body (in most respects), High resolution 3inch LCD display with very good outdoor and low light visibility, Full manual controls, with lots of white balance and brack
  • Best photo quality obtained by shooting RAW (translation: JPEG engine needs improvement), Noise reduction still a bit heavy on low contrast subjects; some subjects seem noticeable softer than the rest of the image, Mild corner blurring, highlight clipping, and purple fringing, Unremarkable burst mode, Still no fluorescent white balance preset, Small, cluttered buttons on back of camera; flimsy do
  • With their new Lumix DMC-LX5, Panasonic has taken an already superb camera (the LX3), and made it even better. They've improved the image quality, zoom power, image stabilizer, movie mode, and battery life, while enhancing both the automatic and manua...

  • Resumen:  It wasn't so long ago that DSLRs were out of financial reach for most enthusiast photographers. Back before DSLRs fell below the magic sub-$1000 mark, the only way for most people to 'go digital' was to invest in a high-quality compact, offering SLR-like control, but without the expensive extras - the large sensor and interchangeable lens mount...

  • Bright lens with reasonable zoom range, good ISO performance up to ISO 800, excellent build quality, excellent multi-aspect sensor design
  • Frustrating lens cap design, mediocre LCD screen, convoluted menu structure
  • Panasonic's LUMIX DMC-LX5 is a digital camera that's appealing to enthusiasts because of its manual control features and excellent image quality...

  • Like: We were bowled over by the accuracy of the white balance. Even used under mixed lighting sources the camera managed to return acceptable colour. And based on a subjective judgement it does seem that the dynamic range is better than for the LX3.
  • Dislike: The lack of an optical viewfinder puts it at a disadvantage compared with the Nikon P7000 and the Canon G12. And there is no printed instruction manual which, for such a serious camera, is perplexing

  • Full manual controls. Bright f/2.0 lens. Excellent battery life. Full manual control and optical zoom when filming video. Improved performance from LX3
  • Inconsistent JPEG processing. Mono microphone
  • The LX5 almost offers everything you could want in a camera of its class, like fast performance and an excellent lens, but just misses full marks due to inconsistent JPEG processing....
