Good: All games for the Xbox 360 are in high-definition, as is the excellent user-friendly Dashboard interface. Theres built-in support for wireless controllers and excellent online gaming and communications via Xbox Live. The console is not only backward compatible with many (but not all) original Xbox titles, it also doubles as superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender.
Bad: Most of the Xbox 360s games so far havent been a big improvement over the previous generation, and the console has some slight design flaws: a noisy exhaust fan, gigantic oversize power supply, no built-in wireless networking, only three USB ports, and no DVI or HDMI output. The DVD player is substandard, and theres no built-in support for next-gen HD movie discs.
Bottomline: The Xbox 360 delivers the power and performance of a high-end gaming PC, including impressive digital media and networking features--but it will take several months to amass a roster of must-have next-gen games. The upcoming Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii threaten to provide better graphics and a wider range of downloadable content, respectively.
Clunky power box, No HDMI support, Hard drive not standard, First generation games feature great graphics, but probably only a little better than what some high-end PCs can produce
The vast multimedia functionality and smooth Xbox Live integration of the 360 places it streets ahead of current generation consoles. The graphics may not blow everyone away, but it?s an impressive overall machine from Microsoft. ...
Cheaper and more games currently than PlayStation3. Excellent online system. HD optical drive is optional.
No digital video output. No 1080p. Awkward form-factor.
Compared to the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360 is a much less elegant and more fiddly device. But unlike the PS3, you can choose to get the core functionality and spend as little as $400. There are more games and the online gaming component really is exce...
