  • Convenient collapsible design; hard carrying case; tight, punchy bass
  • The cord is too short for home use; treble and mid-range frequencies have a skeletal timbre
  • Bass addicts on tight budgets will no doubt appreciate Sonys portable and collapsible MDR-710LP headphones, but audiophiles might want to consider a warmer-sounding set ...

  • For a 30mm driver, these headphones offer a healthy kick you’d expect from headphones with much larger drivers and at a fraction of the weight. The universal stereo mini-plug allows for easy use between most portable audio devices.
  • The folding mechanism has an annoying tendency to fold up in random configurations if you place the unfolded headset aside. Also at high volumes, your audio/visual device can be heard audibly by just about everyone in your near vicinity. Most importantly, the headset’s sound is a bit on the bass-heavy side – it works for bass heavy Hip Hop, Rap, Techno, Dance, Rock, Heavy Metal, and other genres
  • For most applications and volume settings you’ll be pretty satisfied with the MDR 710’s healthy kick despite the minor aggravation of having the folding mechanism fold the headset at random....

  • The Sony MDR-710LP has a convenient and comfortable collapsible design, includes a hard carrying case, and it delivers tight, punchy bass.
  • The Sony MDR-710LPs 4-foot cord is too short for nonportable applications. Moreover, its treble and midrange frequencies have a more skeletal timbre than those of some phones.
  • Bass addicts on tight budgets will appreciate Sonys MDR-710LP portable, collapsible headphones, but audiophiles should consider a warmer-sounding set.
