  • Resumen:  While raising money on Kickstarter in 2014, a big part of the elevator pitch for Roost -- a startup based in Sunnyvale, California -- was that its Wi-Fi-enabled smoke alarm battery would forever banish the middle of the night "low-battery chirp" that's th...

  • Delivers alerts to connected phones when your smoke alarm goes off, The Wi-Fi module is re-usable: Just detach it from the spent battery and connect it to a fresh one, Push one button to reach the fire department closest to your home
  • The process for joining the battery to your Wi-Fi network can be clunkyr, You can't customize the alarm notification message
  • The upfront cost is higher than an ordinary lithium smoke-detector battery, but the Wi-Fi module is reusable and replacement batteries are only slightly more expensive than ordinary ones. It's money well spent to protect your home...

  • Resumen:  The concept is simple: A smoke alarm that tells you there's a fire nearby is a great, but a smoke alarm that tells you there's a fire no matter where you are is even better. Smart smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors are one of the most useful categor...

  • Works with most smoke detectors, Inexpensive, Snooze feature
  • Requires IFTTT to work with other smart home devices
  • If you're looking for the best smart smoke detector, the Nest Protect can't be beat. But Nest's $119 device costs roughly the same as three of Roost's batteries. If you have a bunch of traditional smoke detectors and are looking to retrofit them to make t...

  • Sends alerts to your smartphone (and to friends and family willing to install the app) when your smoke or CO detector goes off, Five-year battery life, Replacement batteries cost less than half as much, thanks to a reusable Wi-Fi module
  • You can't customize the message Roost sends to those you ask to monitor your alarms, App defaults to 911 instead of the number for the fire department nearest your home
  • They're much more expensive than the typical 9-volt battery, but they deliver peace of mind that no dumb battery can...

  • If you can install a battery, you can install the Roost Smart Battery into your existing smoke detector, and it will reliably send you push notifications when your alarm sounds. Both the battery and the app are attractively designed and easy to use.
  • Roost offers the option to "snooze" your alarm, but that won't work if your alarm is hardwired and the 9V is acting as a backup. Roost doesn't offer any interconnectivity to other smart devices
  • You won't get as many smarts with the Roost Smart Battery as you would with a wholesale connected replacement, but at $35, it's a viable and cost-effective option for simple, retrofit smarts...
